{"id":92147,"date":"2024-12-10T09:51:27","date_gmt":"2024-12-10T14:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/?page_id=92147"},"modified":"2025-07-18T14:44:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T18:44:50","slug":"measures-of-our-growth","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/explore-peabody\/strategic-plan\/measures-of-our-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Measures of Our Growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the Breakthrough Plan was launched in 2015 and renewed in 2019 as the Breakthrough Plan 2024, Peabody has enjoyed robust growth touching virtually every area of the institution.<\/p>\n<p>Measures of our growth include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Conservatory enrollment has increased more than 40%<\/strong> in eight years from 570 to 800 students today, our highest ever, while net tuition has increased 87%.<\/li>\n<li>Peabody has moved its discount rate from the low end of its peer set to the midpoint, and garnered resources to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hub.jhu.edu\/2024\/02\/02\/peabody-conservatory-student-financial-aid\/\">meet full-need with no loans<\/a> for qualifying undergraduates and fully fund tuition for 2-year DMA residency<\/strong>, which is projected to now increase Peabody\u2019s discount rate to the high end among its peers.<\/li>\n<li>The Conservatory has <strong>launched new programs<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/academics\/instruments-areas-of-study\/dance\/\">Dance<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/academics\/instruments-areas-of-study\/music-for-new-media\/\">Music for New Media<\/a>, and more than doubled enrollment in key programs at the intersection of technology and the arts.<\/li>\n<li>The launch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/academics\/breakthrough-curriculum\/\"><strong>Breakthrough Curriculum<\/strong><\/a> and creation of <a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/life-at-peabody\/career-services\/\"><strong>LAUNCHPad<\/strong><\/a> have positioned Peabody as a leader in rethinking the training of artists in the 21st century.<\/li>\n<li>The percentage of <strong>underrepresented faculty and students<\/strong> has grown since 2015, from 5% of faculty to 14%, and from 10% of students to 18%, with 18% of the incoming fall 2024 student cohort identifying as underrepresented as compared with 14% in 2023.<\/li>\n<li>In collaboration with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Hospital, we have launched key initiatives and expanded our programming footprint at the intersection of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/explore-peabody\/performing-arts-health\/\">performing arts and health<\/a>,<\/strong> including the appointment of Peabody\u2019s first Bloomberg Distinguished Professor and the establishment of a Department of Performing Arts &amp; Health.<\/li>\n<li>Generational change in <a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/faculty\/\"><strong>Conservatory faculty<\/strong><\/a> has included 70 new hires, reimagined governance, and the implementation of rank and promotion.<\/li>\n<li>Peabody has led the field in <strong>convening conversations<\/strong> around issues critical to the performing arts through symposiums like <a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/explore-peabody\/deans-office\/next-normal\/\">The Next Normal<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/concerts-events\/?event_type=56\"><strong>Peabody performances<\/strong><\/a> have expanded to include a concert series and other events at The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C.<\/li>\n<li>Average annual fundraising has grown steadily while Peabody\u2019s endowment has doubled to $150M excluding central-held endowment funds.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Peabody\u2019s finances have stabilized<\/strong>, over several years reducing deficits, which historically ranged from $2M to $3M annually, reduced to a total $1.5M over FY22 and FY23, and then achieving a balanced budget in FY24, one year ahead of plan.
