{"id":790,"date":"2017-07-03T12:12:39","date_gmt":"2017-07-03T16:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/?page_id=790"},"modified":"2025-05-22T15:31:02","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T19:31:02","slug":"auditions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/academics\/instruments-areas-of-study\/brass\/trombone\/auditions\/","title":{"rendered":"Auditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Pre-screening<\/h2>\n<p>There is no pre-screening requirement for Trombone.<\/p>\n<h2>Undergraduate (BM)<\/h2>\n<h4>Trombone<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>One lyrical \u00e9tude by Bordogni, Book One<\/li>\n<li>One technical \u00e9tude by Kopprasch, Blazhevich, Tyrell, Voxman (or equivalent)<\/li>\n<li>One solo, or one movement of a concerto, of the applicant\u2019s choice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Orchestral Excerpts are not required for Bachelor of Music auditions.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants may be asked to play two-octave major and minor scales and to read at sight.<\/p>\n<h4>Bass Trombone<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A solo of the applicant\u2019s choice (the complete work, or certain movements of a multi-movement work).<\/li>\n<li>An etude by Bordogni\/Rochut, down one octave from printed.<\/li>\n<li>A technical etude of the applicant\u2019s choice.\n<ul>\n<li>Examples: Blazhevich (tuba or Vernon edition), Tyrell (tuba), Grigoriev (tuba), Gillis, Maenz, Pederson, or others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Major scales in a moderate tempo (articulated, tenuto) may be asked in order to hear sound and intonation through the applicant\u2019s entire range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Orchestral Excerpts are not required for Bachelor of Music auditions.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer applicants are required to prepare at least three standard orchestral excerpts of contrasting style.<\/p>\n<h2>Graduate (MM, GPD, DMA)<\/h2>\n<h4>Trombone<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>One lyrical \u00e9tude by Bordogni, Book One<\/li>\n<li>One technical \u00e9tude of advanced difficulty<\/li>\n<li>One complete major concerto or solo work<\/li>\n<li>Three or four orchestral excerpts from the symphonic repertoire (specific excerpts to be chosen by the applicant)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants may be asked to play two-octave major and minor scales and to read at sight in various clefs. \u200b<\/p>\n<h4>Bass Trombone<\/h4>\n<p>Please prepare the undergraduate requirements listed above, including at least three standard orchestral excerpts of contrasting styles.<\/p>\n<h2>Artist Diploma<\/h2>\n<p>AD applicants\u00a0must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods and including at least two large-scale works.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pre-screening There is no pre-screening requirement for Trombone.
