{"id":47759,"date":"2020-08-07T09:48:36","date_gmt":"2020-08-07T13:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/?page_id=47759"},"modified":"2023-04-20T17:10:14","modified_gmt":"2023-04-20T21:10:14","slug":"bwmp-scholarship-process","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/preparatory\/registration-financial-aid\/scholarships\/musical-pathways\/bwmp-scholarship-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Baltimore-Washington Musical Pathways Scholarship Process"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4>Submission deadline for 2023-24 applications: <br \/>Thursday, June 15 at 11:59 pm.<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Notifications will be available on Saturday, July 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Applications submitted after deadline will be considered, by priority given to those who submitted before the deadline.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>Applicants must be highly driven, dedicated, and interested in pursuing a professional career in classical music.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must be rising 8th-12th grade students, residing within the Baltimore\/Washington metro region.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible students must play the following orchestral instruments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Violin, viola, cello, double bass<\/li>\n<li>Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon<\/li>\n<li>Horn, trumpet, trombone\/bass trombone, tuba<\/li>\n<li>Percussion, harp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Online Application<\/h2>\n<p>The application and audition process will consist of the following elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Includes questions on family information, demographics, musical experience, academic experience, and financial overview.<\/li>\n<li>Essay question included in the application: <i>What gives you a unique voice to be able use your music to better yourself and society and how might being a part of this program help you achieve your goals?<\/i><\/li>\n<li>A written essay<i> (750 word maximum)<\/i> or video essay <i>(5 minute maximum)<\/i> must be included in the application submission.<\/li>\n<li><b><i>Essay Tips:<\/i><\/b><i> Please type your essay and save as either a MS Word file (.docx) or as a PDF (.pdf) file.<\/i><\/li>\n<li><b><i>For External Candidates Only<\/i><\/b>: A teacher recommendation and family interview will be needed (internal candidates do not need to provide a recommendation or family interview). Teacher recommendations can be sent in PDF form to Mateen Milan (<a href=\"mailto:mmilan2@jhu.edu\">mmilan2@jhu.edu<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Video Audition (included within the online application)\u00a0<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Prepare 2 contrasting movements from solo pieces of standard solo repertoire for your instrument.<\/li>\n<li>Pieces may be performed with or without recorded accompaniment.<\/li>\n<li>The video should preferably be one-take and unedited. You can try as many times as you want to and submit your best take.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Your video must include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An introduction of your name and instrument<\/li>\n<li>Announce and play the 1st piece<\/li>\n<li>Announce and play the 2nd piece<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Video Tips:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a smart phone video in landscape orientation.<\/li>\n<li>Use the rear facing camera.<\/li>\n<li>Use a tripod or rest the device on a stable platform.<\/li>\n<li>No handheld videos.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure your whole self is visible and that you fully fill the frame.<\/li>\n<li>Record in a well-lit and spacious quiet room.<\/li>\n<li>Dress professionally, like at a performance.<\/li>\n<li>Look at the recording device when speaking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don\u2019t have the appropriate equipment or resources described above in order to make a recording?
