{"id":2781,"date":"2017-07-13T13:06:14","date_gmt":"2017-07-13T17:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/?page_id=2781"},"modified":"2025-06-30T09:17:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T13:17:09","slug":"auditions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/academics\/instruments-areas-of-study\/voice\/auditions\/","title":{"rendered":"Auditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 data-tadv-p=\"keep\">Pre-Screening<\/h2>\n<p>Pre-screening videos must be submitted with your application by the following deadlines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Early Decision (Undergraduate only)<\/strong>: November 1st<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spring Admission (MM, GPD only)<\/strong>: with your application<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regular Decision<\/strong>: December 1st<\/li>\n<li><strong>Late Admission<\/strong>: May 1st<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Current Peabody students applying for a new degree do not need to submit pre-screening recordings; please upload a document or video explaining that you are a current student in lieu of the pre-screening recordings on your application.<\/p>\n<h4 data-tadv-p=\"keep\">Undergraduate<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li data-tadv-p=\"keep\">A pre-screening video with three selections must be uploaded to the Peabody application.<\/li>\n<li data-tadv-p=\"keep\">Of the three classical selections required, at least one should be in English and one in a language other than English.<\/li>\n<li data-tadv-p=\"keep\">Selections must be memorized, and should show a variety of styles and tempi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-tadv-p=\"keep\">Graduate<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li data-tadv-p=\"keep\">A short video of two arias and one song (one selection must be in English) is required to be uploaded to the Peabody application for pre-screening.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"faculty_link\" href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/audition-apply\/auditions\/audition-repertoire\/\">Learn more about Pre-Screening<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-tadv-p=\"keep\">Auditions<\/h2>\n<h4>Undergraduate (BM)<\/h4>\n<p>Three pieces are required.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please include one piece in English and one in a language other than English.<\/li>\n<li>Selections should display a variety of styles and tempi.<\/li>\n<li>Pieces must be memorized.<\/li>\n<li>Sheet music of pieces must be presented to the provided pianist at your live audition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">A supplemental sight-singing diagnostic will be given directly after all undergraduate auditions.<\/p>\n<h4>Graduate (MM, GPD)<\/h4>\n<p>Eight pieces are required.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please include at least one English selection and at least three languages other than English.<\/li>\n<li>Please show a variety of styles and include a mix of songs, operatic and\/or oratorio arias, and at least one recitative.<\/li>\n<li>Pieces must be memorized (except oratorio and\/or complicated repertoire of the 20th\/21st century).<\/li>\n<li>For the MM in Historical Performance, requirements follow those of the MM in Voice, except that four or five of the six selections \u200bmust be written before 1800. A Gregorian chant and at least one selection from the Renaissance should \u200bbe included.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Doctor of Musical Arts<\/h4>\n<p>Ten pieces are required.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please include selections in German, French, Italian, and English<\/li>\n<li>Please show a broad variety of styles which demonstrate interest in sophisticated programming, including:\n<ul>\n<li>at least one operatic aria<\/li>\n<li>one oratorio aria<\/li>\n<li>one recitative which connects to one of the above arias or that is freestanding<\/li>\n<li>other non-operatic pieces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Must be memorized (except oratorio and\/or complicated repertoire of the 21st century)<\/li>\n<li>Please include one selection composed since 1990<\/li>\n<li>Please submit a hypothetical (or actual) well-conceived recital program<\/li>\n<li>Additional selections may be added to demonstrate repertoire and\/or additional language passions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Artist Diploma<\/h4>\n<p>AD applicants in voice must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods.
