{"id":1302,"date":"2017-07-05T15:23:16","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T19:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/?page_id=1302"},"modified":"2025-07-24T09:47:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T13:47:19","slug":"auditions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/academics\/instruments-areas-of-study\/woodwinds\/flute\/auditions\/","title":{"rendered":"Auditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Pre-Screening<\/h2>\n<p>Pre-screening videos must be submitted with your application by the following deadlines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Early Decision (Undergraduate only)<\/strong>: November 1st<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spring Admission (MM, GPD only)<\/strong>: with your application<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regular Decision<\/strong>: December 1st<\/li>\n<li><strong>Late Admission<\/strong>: May 1st<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All candidates must perform\/record with a pianist (with the exception of the solo unaccompanied piece and the excerpts).<\/p>\n<p>The pre-screening video must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two contrasting movements from a sonata by Johann Sebastian Bach or two contrasting movements from either Mozart Concerto KV 313 or KV 314 (must include cadenzas)<\/li>\n<li>A complete unaccompanied work for solo flute from any period<\/li>\n<li>A third contrasting complete work of the candidate\u2019s choice (typically a work for flute and piano such as a sonata, a concerto, or from the French school)<\/li>\n<li>Two orchestral excerpts:\n<ul>\n<li>Mendelssohn: Scherzo from A Midsummer Night&#8217;s Dream (2 measures before P to the end)<\/li>\n<li>Beethoven: Leonore Overture No. 3 (mm. 328-360)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Please note that etudes are not considered acceptable audition repertoire.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"faculty_link\" href=\"https:\/\/peabody.jhu.edu\/audition-apply\/auditions\/audition-repertoire\/\">Learn more about Pre-Screening<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-tadv-p=\"keep\">Auditions<\/h2>\n<p>Applicants are urged to perform repertoire which best represents their performance level. Applicants who successfully pass the pre-screening will be invited to audition.
